What, Me Brady?

THE CONCEPT

A In-depth look into the state of the organization …and it’s been terrible. With rumours of selling, Melnyk’s price tag, stadium issues, Pierre Dorion’s handling of player development and pro-scouting, etc, I thought I’d do my own little expose on the state of affairs. Oh! And don’t forget Brady got bit in the hand the night before.

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a Mad Magazine fanatic. Grew up on them, steal from them, idolize them! So for this doodle, I went all out! Mad packs so many easter eggs in every page and I did my best for this one:

  • Dorion and Melnyk as Thelma and Louis making a pact to stick together and die together as they are about to drive the car (team) off the cliff. But if you notice, Melnyk has Dorion in handcuffs. Dorion has no choice but to do as he says.
  • Dorion has a ‘whatever, boss’ look and is day dreaming but content.
  • Brady is the Alfred E. Neuman ‘What, me Worry?’. But here, he’s ‘Me, worry?‘ as in sarcastic ‘I just signed long term, WTF‘. Note: he is also still carrying Brendan Lemieux‘s teeth in his right hand
  • Melnyk’s car:
    1. Licence plate reads ‘unparalleled’
    2. Antenna displays the flag of Barbados
    3. That’s a Toronto SN590 sticker on front bumper
  • Although the arena reads ‘Canadian Tire Fire’ with a roof tire fire, there’s a nice ribbon and bow overtop to entice possible buyers.
  • 3 cop cars chase in the back. Each respectively represent the NHL, the Media, and the Fans, as the ownership group likes to go MIA and provide no transparency
  • Sign pointing the other direction to Lebreton Flats. The greatest possible solution to keep this franchise in Ottawa.
  • The masthead, where Mad usually display issue number and year, here it’s the teams standing (32nd overall in Dec 2021 last place! ). The right hand side, it’s the teams evaluation and I kept Mad’s cheap for added amusement…cause that’s a cheap price for NHL team
